Trip 6 Cannon Mountain 4100 10/12/98 5.9 miles 2350 Elevation gain Kevin, Judy and Jeannie Thinking were getting good at this. Sticking to the lower 4000 footers to build up for the higher ones. Nice easy climb up to Lonesome Lake, in my opinion it is the easiest climb that offers the best views in Franconia Notch. Climbing the trail above the lake becomes harder, and gets outright difficult as the trail reaches the Kinsman Ridge Trail and wraps around to the north side of the mountain where there is much rock scrambling to do before reaching the summit. Near the summit we started to see some views down the notch but by the time we reached the summit the notch was clouded, with blue sky above. No real views again. We climbed down by the High Cannon Trail which we found steep and difficult being tired from climbing up. Mistakes on this trip.) Our biggest mistake on this mountain is under estimating its difficulty. Despite being a lower 4000 footer this makes no difference in the Whites as each mountain has its own identity and level of difficulty on its trails. We were tired after, but it was a great climb.
